PaperStone

PaperStone products are made from post-consumer recycled paper and a proprietary, petroleum-free resin made from raw materials like cashew nut shell liquid.  The finish is made entirely of bee and carnauba waxes and vegetable products such as soybean oil.  These are natural and food-safe.  PaperStone finish is recommended for food service application.

Phenolic resin and paper composites have long been known to have superior tensile, compression, impact and flexural strengths.  They are very abrasion resistant.  They absorb very little water.  They are the products of choice in applications requiring high fire resistance (PaperStone has a Class A fire rating).  They are routinely specified for cutting boards and for very demanding, high-use, exterior applications like skateboard ramps.

PaperStone Certified Series is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (or FSC), Smartwood and the Rainforest Alliance.  It is the only architectural surface on the market today certified by these demanding third parties.

There are three series of recycled paper-based PaperStone products:
1.  "Original," which is made from 50% post-consumer recycled paper,
2.  "Certified," the FSC, Smartwood, and Rainforest Alliance-certified product, which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, and
3.  "Virgin," which is made from virgin fiber.

Depending upon the project, the use of PaperStone may contribute up to five LEED points.

Horizontally, PaperStone can be used as kitchen countertops, window sills, and door thresholds.  Vertically, it can be applied as toilet partitions, interior and exterior paneling, cabinetry and chair rails.  PaperStone is also recommended for structural applications, landscape components, furniture, table tops, or rainscreens.  It is highly resistant to staining and can withstand temperatures up to 350 degrees, making it an excellent material for kitchen countertops.  It is also very strong and can handle 45,000 pounds of compressive pressure per square inch.

PaperStone is a unique surface material because it is warm to the touch, unlike most other surface materials such as granite or marble.

Standard PaperStone slabs come in panels sized: 5' x 12' with standard thicknesses of 3/4", 1" and 1 1/4".  Other panel options are: 5' x 8', 5' x 10', 30" x 8', 30" x 10', and 30" x 12'.  Thicker panels can be special ordered.
