Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

  • Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is sometimes referred to as Chemical Hypersensitivity Syndrome, and Environmental or Ecological Illness, among other names. People with MCS experience increased sensitivity to environmental exposures. Reactions can occur from petrochemicals, plastics, synthetic fabrics, pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOC's), artificial fragrances, foods and food additives, tree resins, formaldehyde-containing products, molds, exhaust, and electromagnetic fields to name a few. The sensitivities vary with each person and geographic location and will last for a minimum of several months.
  • Creating a healthy home is vital for people suffering from MCS as well as being important for everyone. Those with MCS are not born with it, but acquire it through their environment and many times as a result of living in unhealthy surroundings. Once problem materials are removed, those suffering from MCS will tend to improve.
  • Environmental Interiors is committed to helping create a healthy home. Through extensive research we have selected the safest products available for your family as well as the environment. We select natural materials, including fabrics that are organic or in their natural state without toxic dyes or finishing processes. The wood products either have no finish applied or an environmental water-based finish.
  • We have the capability to produce products based on people's sensitivities. Since some people are sensitive to certain woods we have other products besides those listed on this web site that may be more suitable for you. Knowing that sensitivities vary, we can send out samples of fabrics or woods to make sure that you can tolerate them. One of the hardest products to find that does not include synthetic materials is upholstered furniture. We can custom build sofas and chairs based on your sensitivities. We utilize woods, glues, fabrics, and cushion interiors that are safe for you.
  • As an Interior Designer, I work with clients with chemical sensitivities so I have an understanding of the requirements. If you are looking for something that is not on this web site, please contact us. We may have a solution for you.
