Juli Adams: "Each painting begins by drawing out something from nothing. Literally. A sort of idle play with a pencil on paper begins to work itself out into a presence with a life of it's own. My job is to help it along and allow it to evolve into the next step, which is the painting. Sometimes the imagery comes in a series, sometimes they arrive alone. I get a physical response to what will end up being the final painting. It feels like butterflies in my stomach. No matter how strange the content may be, if I get this feeling the piece gets finished and....believe me, what come up surprises me as much as may surprise you."
Michelle Salazar: The textural complexity of Michelle's work results from the artist's incorporation of printmaking techniques into her paintings, as Salazar scratches text, symbols, and lines into her multi-media work. Recalling the drama of film stills, she frequently evokes the iconic and erotically charged images of a cowboy or cowgirl to express feelings of courage, loneliness, rebellion, and heartbreak. Michelle works with figures and shadows to get the initial shadow outline of a figure and then details the piece at a later time using photographs of the model taken at the time of the session. Michelle will be offering shadow contour drawings during this event.
Jerry Gay: To fully explore both human and spiritual life, Jerry Gay, the Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist took to the back roads of America. During three consecutive summers he logged nearly fifty thousand miles photographing everyday lives and landscapes. Rather than limit his subject matter, he allowed himself to be drawn to a wide diversity of people and situations to visualize America's hearland. This exhibit is a reflection of his journeys.
